Hello and Happy May. Last Saturday we hosted an event at the clubhouse called Wildfire Preparedeness Day. Chief Evans of Glacier Fire and Rescue gave us a great talk about what it looks like to harden your property against wildfire risk. Member and firefighter Ben Williamson also spoke, laying out what it looks like to be a Firewise USA community. Then we celebrated our new knowledge by eating burgers and sausages together on the village green in the sun.
This correspondance is to fill you in on the resources that MBRCC is offering to all members to help you clear your lots of wildfire risks. First, there are various fylers and pamphlets pinned to the clubhouse bulletin board and on the table on the ground floor, please go grab one and familiarize yourself with the different zones and risks on your property. Members are encouraged to clear brush, small trees, and other vegetation from within their defensible space zones. Second, we have a yard waste dumpster down at our lot at the end of Glacier Rim Dr. This dumpster is free of charge for you to dump all of the yard waste that you clear from your property. It will be there through the beginning of June. Third, we are going to be doing curbside pickup of yard debris for those that do not have the ability to deliver their debris to the lot. You have this month to make a nice, neat pile next to your driveway and just off the road. We will begin curbside pickup at the beginning of June. Fourth, starting on Wednesday May 13th, you can pick up gravel, soil and a variety of native trees, shrubs and ground cover plants at the same lot as a reward for your hard work. The gravel is not for your driveway or pathways. It is intended for you to use in your immediate zone up against your house. Imagine a 1-foot-wide strip of gravel against your foundation and deck/porch protecting your home from wildfire spark. When picking up these free resources please remember there are over 300 other members to share with. The soil and fire-resistant native plants are for you to replace the Arborvitae and other risky plants that you rip out and take to the yardwaste dumpster. Here is a link to a video demonstrating the danger of the ubiquitous Arborvitae https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Maz15crwj_M .
